Importance of Shiva Pooja

In Sanatan Dharma, Lord Shiva is considered to be all-powerful. He cannot be compared to any other deity. Lord Vishnu, the creator of the universe, also worships him. It is believed that when the world faces a grave crisis, all the gods and goddesses seek refuge in Lord Shiva. Shiva is immortal, supports all virtues, omniscient, the auspicious one is Shiva. Happiness, prosperity, and wealth on earth are the gifts of Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva worship is also considered very special in the scriptures. Lord Shiva Shivratri Puja Vidhi

  • One should always keep in mind that one should worship God with a clean body and mind.
  • Similarly, you can worship God in the morning at home or by going to the Shiva temple.
  • First of all, after offering water on the Shivling, offer raw milk or sugarcane juice.
  • During this, keep chanting the Shiv Puja Mantra (Om Namah Shivaya) mantra. You can chant this mantra 11, 21, 51 or 108 times according to your faith.
  • Again, offer water on the Shivling and offer flowers, Akshat, Datura, and Belpatra, and light incense sticks and lamps.
  • After this, read the Aarti of Bholenath and apologize to Bholenath for the mistakes made in the worship. Also, pray for the removal of your troubles. and get happiness and prosperity.

How to do the Lord Shiva Puja?

  • On Monday, wake up at Brahma Muhurta and start the day by meditating on Lord Shiva.
  • Now take a bath and wear clean clothes.
  • Offer water to the Sun God.
  • Ritually anoint Bholenath with Panchamrit.
  • Now install the idol of Lord Shiva by laying a red cloth on a post.
  • Now apply white sandalwood tilak on them.
  • Do Rudra Mala Jaap
  • After this, offer white flowers, dhatura, bhang, and belpatra to Mahadev.
  • Light a lamp of desi ghee and perform aarti.
  • Read or listen to Monday’s Fasting Story.
  • Then eat fruits, vegetables and cereals.
  • At the end, distribute the prasad among the people and also take it yourself. 

Special attention to these things while worshiping

  • On Monday, along with Mahakaal, Gangaajal should be offered to Goddess Parvati and Nandi as well. 
  • If possible, do Abhishek with raw cow milk. During this, chant the mantra Om Namah Shivaya.
  • After doing Abhishek with Panchamrit, sandalwood, Akshat, Bilva Patra, Dhatura or Akde flowers should be offered to Bholenath. It is said that doing this please Lord Shiva.
  • Take special care that never offers turmeric, kumkum, Tulsi leaves, coconut, red flowers to Lord Shiva Shankar.
