ELEMENTS OF PANCHANG

Tithi

According to hindu calendar there are a total 30 Tithis(Lunar days), where the first fifteen days are called Shukla Paksh and the other fifteen days are called Krishna Paksh.  

According to hindu calendar, Poornima Tithi which is also called the full Moon and Amawasya Tithi which is also known as No moon happens once in the month. 

There are 27 tithis which are as follows:

Nakshatra

The term Naksha means map and tara means star, after merging the two Nakshatra Nakshatra is the position of the moon in the zodiac sign, which is also known as the constellation. The time in which the moon is required to travel over the ecliptic is also called the duration of nakshatra. 

As per astrology, nakshatra helps to read the horoscope and can unravel one’s future. There are a total 27 nakshatra, each having their unique features for which they are known for, these are:

Vaara

Each day of week is referred to as Vaara , each day or Vaara is associated with some planets for which it is known. For example Sunday is associated with planet sun. Each day has an influence on human life. There are total seven Vaaras which are:

  • Sunday: Also known as Ravivar associated with planet sun.
    Monday: Monday is also referred to as Somwar, linked with the Moon planet.
  • Tuesday: Tuesday or Mangalwar, this day is associated with planet Mars.
  • Wednesday: Planet Wednesday is also called Budhwar, linked with planet Mercury.
  • Thursday: Thursday or Brahaspativar is associated with planet Jupiter.

Karana

According to hindu calendar, Karana is the half lunar day or planet or a period of approximately 8 hours and 24 minutes. Karna is half of Yog and two karna are made up of Tithi. There are a total of 27 yogas which are as follows:

Yoga
