Kansa, the king of Mathura, had a sister named Devaki. Kansa consents to arrange Devaki's marriage for him to become the Yadava clan's prince, as Devaki wishes to wed Vasudeva.

A fortune teller informs Kansa that one of Devaki's offspring will cause him to pass away when she gets married. Kansa became alarmed upon learning about this and chose to murder Devaki.

In exchange for his wife's life, Vasudeva pledged to give Kansa every kid as soon as it was born. After that, Kansa lets go of his sister, imprisons them both and ensures that none of Devaki's kids will live.

Devaki and Vasudeva had eight children in total, including Krishna. Kansa killed seven children before then.

However, Nandaraja who was a friend of Vasudeva, and his wife Yashoda had also given birth to a baby girl on the same night that Krishna was born.

A dazzling light illuminated the prison after Krishna's birth. Vasudeva was awakened by the voice of God emanating from the light.

Vasudeva was led by that supernatural voice to remove Krishna from the area, cross the Yamuna, and give the kid to his friend Nandaraja and  Yashoda's child.  Vasudeva crossed the Yamuna River while hiding the newborn Krishna in a basket.

Yamuna crossing was difficult until Lord Vishnu's sesh Naag, a multiheaded snake, appeared and assisted Vasudeva in successfully navigating the river with Krishna.

He took the girl to prison after secretly exchanging the baby Krishna for her. When the prison baby begins to wail, the guards notice the voice and alert Kansa.

Even yet, Kansa was prepared to murder Devaki and Vasudeva's eighth child.

When Kansa attempted to kill the infant, Devaki pleaded with him not to, but Kansa did not listen. The baby then changed into Goddess Durga and alerted Kansa to the impending death of his kingdom.

She replied that she could only murder him then and then, but Kansa's demise had to occur on schedule, and the Goddess had to disappear. Krishna was raised in the Gopa tribe alongside Yashoda and Nandaraja.
