Route No. 1 – via Khandwa road to Omkareshwar Mandir.  The stations that will come on this route are- Indore-Baigram-Choral-Pankhaniya-Chichala-Barwaha-Mortakka-Omkareshwar.

En route this Omkareshwar Mahadev Mandir trip, the pilgrims encounter the panoramic view all along and get to see Simrol Falls, Kajligarh Fort, Tafri waterfall, Vindyachal, Bheru Ghat, Tincha waterfall, Berchha & Narmada view point, Mortakka.

Route No.2. This route leading to Omkareshwar Mahadev Mandir is a little longer. It is roughly 125 kms. It takes a little longer to reach Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga Madhya Pradesh. The stations which people come across on this alternative route are- Indore-Umaria-

Dr.  Ambedkar Nagar-Mend-Bhagdara-Dhargaon-Machalpur-Barwaha-Mortakka-Omkareshawar.

As per the story, Brahma and Vishnu ascended/descended on the pillar in order to find out its beginning and end.

Vishnu took Varaha incarnation (avatar) and Brahma of Hansa(Swan). Brahma lied and produced Ketaki flower as proof while Vishnu admitted his inability to find the beginning and the end of the light of the Lord Shiva’s Stambha, the pillar of light(Jyotirlinga).

Angered at the dishonest representation by Brahma, Shiva cursed that he would not be worshiped; Lord Shiva further pronounced that Vishnu would be worshiped eternally for adopting an honest and truthful approach.
