Lord Brahma wrongly claimed to have found it, while Lord Vishnu accepted his defeat. At this, Lord Shiva got enraged and cursed Brahma that He will not be worshiped and in respect of Lord Vishnu, declared that He will be worshiped eternally. 

12 Jyotirlingas represent the infinite power of Lord Shiva. Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga, one of the sacred 12 Jyotirlingas is nestled in the Sahyadri hills at about 3500 ft. above the sea level. Bhimashankar Temple dates back to the 13th Century. And the Sabhamandap is stated to have been built by Nana Phadnavis in the 18th Century.

Pilgrims take holy dip for atonement in the river which flows beside the temple. Shiva and Parvati assumed Ardha- Narya -Nateshwara form to eliminate the demon Tripurasura and restore peace.

As per the Bhimashankar Temple history, the two wives of Tripurasura named Dakini and Shakini approached Lord Shiva and asked how they would survive without Tripurasura. Lord Shiva blessed both of them with the boon to be immortal and hence the name Dakinyam Bhimashankaram Jyotirlinga.

-Madhyam Aarti- Madhyam Aarti is performed at 3:00 pm.
